Book Talk Tuesday 2012

I have been searching the web for a great place to post book reviews for librarians and teachers to use in the classroom. Well, I am going to try hosting my own Book Talk Tuesday! I invite teachers and librarians to link to a recent book talk or book review that can be used by others- to help purchase new books, learn about new books and to help give us book talk ideas.
My rules?
1. All content must be appropriate for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
2. Please link to your original content, not the content of others.
3. Websites that you link to must be child friendly since lots of kids visit this site and if they click on your link, I want it to be appropriate for them.
4. Positive reviews only, please... we only spread love here at The Lemme Library!
5. Books must be available in The US. (you are welcome to link to ARC reviews)
6. I reserve the right to remove any reviews that don't meet criteria 1-5.
In the link title field, be sure to include the title of the book you are reviewing and your site name. In the URL field, please link to this specific post that contains the book review (That way people don't have to scour your blog looking for it!)

Wow. Thank you to all of the loyal book Talk Tuesday posters who have continued to post week after week. The last 2 weeks, we have had record low response to Book Talk Tuesday. I am thinking it is my blog name change. It just so happens that the week I went from The Lemme Library to The Book Butcher, the response was very low. The next week, more links but not the usually 22+ we usually get.
I feel like The Artist Formerly Know as Prince. I am now The Book Butcher (formerly The Lemme Library). I am starting to regret my name change. I love my new name, but worry that I may have lost some viewers along the way. In the grand scheme of things, viewers don't matter- they will find their way back or I will get new viewers... I don't blog to get viewers I guess. I blog for me and my students, but it's nice to know that people in the world actually look at what I post.  Do you have any advice for me as I ride out the waves of a name change? Are you interested in the number if viewers your blog has? How do you increase your blog traffic?

What is better than spending hours on Pinterest looking for amazing things to make, bake or laugh at? Looking at what other bloggers have spent hours looking for!! I have a mild obsession with Pinterest.  I have a feeling that a lot of you share my obsession. So instead of having a 12 step program to solve our Pinterest Addiction, let's get together and share our addiction! I hope that you will flock here and share your weekly Pinterest finds.
Thank you to Eighteen25 for this idea and graphic!
My rules?
1. Continue to spend hours on Pinterest each week.
2. Create a post each Friday that highlights your favorites of the week.
3. Come to this blog each Friday morning and share the link to your post. Link to the actual post, not your whole blog or Pinterest page.
4. Lots of kids visit this site, so rated R pins are discouraged, but I am not one to censor.
5. Visit the blogs that have linked up. Leave a comment. Make a new friend.
6. Don't link to your Pinterest board.
7. You are welcome, but not required to use this image in your Pinterest post.

I Love You!

Today during Kindergarten we made these super cute I Love You hands! I put the steps up on The SMART Board- it is amazing how simple a multi-step task becomes when it is on that SMART Board!
Here is the link to the Notebook file at Smart Exchange.
Before we did our art project, we read Sugar Cookies: Sweet Little Lessons on Love by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

Then we watched this video. (My 3 year old LOVES Signing Time With Alex & Leah!)

So... I have a new look! What do you think?I have been wanting to create my own presence- separate from my school library.  This opens some opportunities for me- my content can expand, my reviews can be varied... I will still keep all content suitable for a middle school aged audience.  Eventually, I'd like to change my blog address, but it makes me very nervous! I also changed my twitter name- I am now @ThebookButcher. Come and see me! Has your blog gone through a make over or a change? What advice do you have for me? I am excited and optimistic about this change!

I Volunteer as Tribute!

An original, hand-cut paper silhouette based on Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games from Etsy.
"I Volunteer" features Katniss and Prim Everdeen during the Reaping from the first book of The Hunger Games trilogy.
Measures 8x10 inches and is cut from acid-free cardstock and includes a white or cream background for framing.

All Hail The Hunger Games!

Vote Snow

I have always liked Donald Sutherland, but after March 23rd, I may not.

Smart Girls!

Belle & Rapunzel have always been my favorite Disney Princess because they love to read. Look at what they are reading these days!

Yes, Please!

Do you think I could get these for my three year old's birthday? Her birthday is in 3 weeks. Won't she love them? We could use our extra Barbie Dolls as Tributes? It would be awesome! They are only $17.99 each on Amazon. You could save money by not buying the Peta doll.

Keep Calm & Wonder On

I knew I liked Jack Will... I knew he was a good egg.

The Music of Wonder

This little baby doesn't come out until Valentine's Day (After you read it, you will know how perfect that is.) But, to get you in the mood, and to give you a little tease, I present you with these videos. When you read the book you will see that each section starts with a song or book quote... a precept. I love this idea. I can always look back on my life and think of songs that got me through or inspired me... music is so very important to me.  Music can capture the emotions where words fail. These are all of the precepts and the songs/books that go with them. If this doesn't get you interested... (oh, and this will win the 2013 Newbery. Just you wait and see!)

Only 24 hours in a day. Let's break it down:
2 hours spent getting the kids and myself ready in the morning.
8 hours working (I may spend 30 minutes reading over lunch!)
3 hours spent getting home, getting snack, making dinner.
2 hours spent cleaning up dinner and doing nightly bedtime routines.
2 hours spent how I'd like them... on a good night it's 2, spent cleaning, shopping, watching tv, blogging, twittering, guitar lessons, and reading
7 hours spent sleeping... usually less.
Yesterday I spent the entire day with my face in a book. My kids could barely get my attention. We had cereal for dinner. Yes, cereal for dinner. I just couldn't stop reading. I HAD to get to the end of the book I was reading (The Knife of Never Letting Go) I had to see the characters safely to the end of the book. It was my duty. I had to know how it was going to end- and if that meant feeding my children cereal for dinner, I still had to do it. I finished the book on Sunday morning. Then I started another one. (Wonder) and guess what? I couldn't stop reading! I didn't watch the Super Bowl but I did manage to feed my children.  There are not enough hours in the day for all of the good books in the world. I wish for 1 year nobody would publish anything new so I could have 365 days to catch up. How do you find the time? Yes, I read while I stir dinner, yes I read while I am waiting for my Cinnamon Dolce Latte... but I am greedy! I want to READ ALL THE BOOKS! Do you feel me? Tell us about it! Then link to your book talk!! May be link to a really terrible book so I won't be compelled to read it!!!

Mama Likey!

Does anyone know how to make these AWESOME book purses I found on Etsy??!?!?!?

What Super Bowl?

This is the only reason I would watch the Super Bowl... the new Hunger Games trailer will play during this year's game. Goosebumps!

Always The Tribute... Never The Victor

The fire is spreading! A little over a month and The Hunger Games move will be in theaters! I am so excited, and so are my students (even the ones who haven't read the trilogy!) Today during library, we played some very challenging Tribute Games to see if we have what it takes to survive in the arena. Sadly, I have played these several times and have failed to survive. I am a chicken. I would never make it in the arena. I would dig a  hole and hide. They would still find me. How about you? Could you go head to head in the arena? Are you CUNNING, SMART, FAST and COURAGEOUS? Take the test and see! Let me know if you succeed! (But don't spoil the game by giving too much away!)
